The Greatest Gift

Matt 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

During the Christmas Holiday season in which we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ,  many people are focused on shopping and purchasing gifts, rather than unwrapping and reflecting on  the greatest gift one could ever receive which is: Jesus Christ and the free gift of salvation.  In the book of John 3: 16, we are reminded us of this heavenly gift that was given by the Father!

Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Many of us have received gifts already and they are under the tree. But the question today is have you truly unwrapped the greatest gift that has even been given to mankind?

My question is who receives a gift and doesn’t open the gift? The Apostle Paul said it was an unspeakable gift in 2 Cor 9:15 – “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.”

In Matt 2: 7-11, in the story of the birth of Jesus Christ,  the wise men received this precious gift with joy and did the following:

  1. They praised him.
  2. They worshipped him.
  3. They gave gifts to him.  The three gifts were gold, frankincense and myrrh, which all have a spiritual meaning

Gold is a symbol of kingship on earth, and represents his divine nature. Because he was born a King and is King of Kings.  Frankincense speaks of the fragrance of His life which was pleasing to the Heavenly Father. Frankincense (an incense) is also a symbol of priesthood. It also comes symbolizes Christ’s role as our intercessor. Myrrh speaks of His suffering and death. Myrrh has many uses and can be used as a perfume, incense and medicine.  These three gifts can be described more generally as gold symbolizing his divinity, frankincense symbolizing his priesthood, his intercession, his prayer and myrrh, which was used to cover the Messiah during his death.

I understand now why they bought King Jesus these three gifts, as they praised and worshipped him!  Is not this the example that we should follow? We should praise him, worship him and given back to him the glory and honor that is due his Holy Name!

Wow what a gift! This is why Matthew said in Matt 1:21, “And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

It is the gift of salvation that saves us from our sins. This is why we celebrate Jesus Christ! We also must understand that Jesus Name is the name above all names!  Peter said in Act 4:12 – “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Jesus Christ is the greatest gift that was, and will ever be given!  Listen to the words of the Apostle Paul –

Eph 2:8  For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, Eph 2:9  not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Not only that but he gave us the free gift of Salvation. We didn’t deserve it, we couldn’t earn it, and you definitely can’t buy it. It is a gift from God. Remember that salvation means to rescue and bring to safety, It is also deliverance, health, peace, joy, grace, and mercy.

This is why it is the greatest gift even given to mankind! And because you have received it, you have been endowed with the greatest gift even given in the history of gift giving!

I am reminded of a story in the Gospels when Jesus met a woman at the well in which he told her:

John 4:10  Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Why is it important to unwrap this great gift? Because in this gift is salvation, abundant life, eternal life, healing, deliverance, freedom, joy, peace, grace, love, favor and blessing!

Not only have we received the free gift of salvation, but God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 says, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Family and friends, God wants to endow you not only with the free gift of salvation, but also the  gift of the Holy Spirit  in which he gave us spiritual gifts. I want everyone under the sound of my voice to know that you have been blessed and born with gifts that only come from God.

I want to say today that the Lord desires to put some super on your natural, so that you can make an impact for the Kingdom of God in the earth!

Rom 1:11  For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established.

2 Tim 1:6  Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Eph 4:7  But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

1 Peter 4:10  As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Here is the revelation on the greatest gift of  SALVATION given to us through Jesus Christ:

Saved us, Abundant Life, Love, Victory, Anointing, Truth, Intimacy, Overcomer, New Life

Isaiah the Prophet prophesied of the coming Messiah Jesus Christ and said in Isa 9:6-7:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end.”

People of God as you celebrate and fellowship with family and friends, let us remember to unwrap and celebrate Jesus Christ, the greatest gift even given to mankind!

God Bless, Pastor Quinn
