The Reason for the Season

Isa 9:6  For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder, and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7  Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

How many of us know that Jesus is the reason for the season? December is a month of celebrating Christmas, fellowship, food, and gift giving, but more importantly, let us remember to celebrate the one who is the greatest gift ever given; Jesus the Christ! (Yeshua Hamishiach)  Over the years as a child and being born in the month of December, I have always been enamored with Christmas because it meant gifts, new clothes, toys, candy and lots of food! (Praise God!)  As I got older and began to understand the significance of the birth and life of Christ and my focus changed!  I now realize that the holiday season is wonderful, but the greatest gift that was ever given to mankind was the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Isaiah the prophet gives us some of the most profound scriptures as it relates to the birth of Christ. Isaiah starts out by saying in Isa 9:6, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

As we look at this verse it is full of powerful references of who Jesus Christ, the Messiah is. He is the God child who was born and given by the Father in Heaven, and the government or Kingdom of Heaven will be upon his shoulders, and his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace!  These are some amazing names that each and every one of us can understand. The Lord Jesus is truly wonderful, He gives us wise counsel through the Holy Spirit, He is a mighty God, He and the Father are one, and He is an everlasting Father. He is an eternal father, He is an awesome father, and above all He is Abba (Daddy) Father. Lastly he came to give us peace, because he is the Prince of Peace!

Isaiah also said in Isa 9:7, “Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.” God’s Kingdom will reign forever more and unlike human kingdoms that establish peace for a season, his peace will never end. There have been many Kingdoms since the beginning of civilization, but where are they now?  Isaiah also says, “Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”

One thing we should never forget is that King Jesus shall reign as King David did, but will do it in a greater capacity! It will not just be an earthly reign, but a heavenly reign. David was known as one of Israel’s greatest Kings, who was a man after Gods heart. Jesus is the beloved Son of God who is even greater, and his kingdom will be established with order, judgment, and justice, now and forever more! David’s kingdom lasted for a season, The Kingdom of God will last forever more! This is why Jesus Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords and we are his Kingdom citizens! Hallelujah!

Saints as we celebrate Christmas, never ever forget the divine significance of the birth of Christ. This is the month in which we celebrate Christmas which comes around only once a year. Jesus Christ must be celebrated all year long! May God Bless you this on this Christmas and holiday season as you abide in the Prince of Peace, who is Jesus Christ our LORD, Savior, King and coming Messiah!  Be Blessed! Pastor Quinn
