Having the Heart of God

Matt 9:36  But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

We live in tribulous times! When we read the newspaper or watch the news, we see crime and politics as the headlining story. It also seems like everyone in the world is so sensitive and emotional about the wrong things in life. But the big question is: Do we have a heart for God? In other words, do you see how God sees? Today, the values of the world have changed and it has influenced the church! People have become so desensitized to the pain around them, and as a result, morality has taken a back seat! Why because we see it everyday, we hear it everyday and we get used to it.

But as the people of God, we should never get used to seeing and hearing about murder, pain, drugs, death, and people destined for hell. If these things don’t bother you, then you have been desensitized! Isaiah prophesied and said the following: Isa 5:20 –  “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

In other words, people of God, we need to see like God sees, and hear what the spirit of the LORD is saying to us, which means we need the heart of God! Why? So we can show the compassion of the LORD to a world that has lost its way! If you are saved, and say that Jesus is LORD, then you should have the heart of God.

The Bible says that David was a man after God’s heart. He loved God, and he loved the things of God. We find that God actually demoted Saul and elevated David who had his heart.

1 Sam 15:28 – “So Samuel said to him (Saul), “The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.” That neighbor was King David, who was a worshipper and a warrior! I believe God is looking for some people that have that same heart for God.

The Bible says in Matt 9:36, “But when He (Jesus) saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they (the people in the world) were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.” Jesus saw the people and was moved with compassion! Why? Because they were weary and scattered like sheep with no shepherd!

David understood the importance of having a Shepherd. He said, “The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want in Psalm 23:1.

Paul said in 1 Pet 2:25, “For you were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”

We all need a Shepherd, we all need guidance, and we all need spiritual direction. That’s why many people who are rich, wealthy, make good money, and have good jobs, still lack something! There is a hole in their heart and they can’t figure it out! That something is a relationship with our LORD Jesus Christ!

Deep down in every human being is a desire to worship! Either you will worship the one true God, or you will worship the god of self, the god of money, sex, fame or fortune. Make no mistake, people will worship something!

Jesus said in Matt 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

People of God, let us have the heart of God, which is a heart filled with compassion for those that have lost their way. They may be rich, poor, in prison, the elderly in nursing homes, young people, veterans with disabilities, those that are sick, the homeless, and above all, those that have been deceived by the devil. We need the compassion of our LORD Jesus Christ to make an impact for the Kingdom of God! More importantly, we need a heart like God! Today, ask the LORD to use you for his glory with a heart of compassion!

God bless!  Pastor Quinn
