Keep Your Fire Burning!

Heb 12:28-29   “Therefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:  For our God is a consuming fire.

While I was in prayer, I heard the Holy Spirit say,  “Keep your fire burning!” Why? Because we need to keep a fire burning in our hearts as we serve the LORD. Sometimes when we are going through difficult times it can cause people to be discouraged and they lose their fire and passion!

This should not be! In the midst of trials we must continue to be the light of the world, and a city on a hill which cannot be hidden. When you think about fire in the Bible, what does it symbolize or represent? Fire is representative of the Holy Spirit. It is also symbolic of testing and purity. In many references, fire is used to test one’s devotion to God and their own salvation. The Body of Christ is being tested right now in their faith, but we must hold on to God’s unchanging Word! In the book of Revelation we find that the LORD rebuked the church of Laodicea because they were lukewarm and not cold or hot. Listen to the Words of the LORD!

Rev 3:14  “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:
Rev 3:15  “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
Rev 3:16  So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
Rev 3:17  Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—
Rev 3:18  I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

The LORD rebuked this church because as it relates to their works they were lukewarm. To be lukewarm means to be in between. They were not a church on fire, and they weren’t really cold, but somewhere in the middle. These passages of scripture definitely have some revelational meaning because God doesn’t want us in between or in the middle, but he does respect our freedom of choice. So he said, I wish you were cold or hot. In other words, make a decision! Jesus even said in Matt 5:37  “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” He then says in Rev 3: 18, “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”

Notice that the LORD said, buy from me gold refined in the fire! Why gold and fire? Because gold is pure, and fire is used to purify it!  People of God we need to be as gold refined in the fire, and you need to keep your fire, zeal, fervor, and faith strong in these tough times.

Heb 12:28-29  goes on to say “Therefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:  For our God is a consuming fire.” People of God, we are of the Kingdom of our LORD Christ which cannot be moved or shaken! The world may be shaken, but the church should not be shaken. We all understand the difference between wisdom and faith, but we need both of them.

The LORD Jesus told a parable in Matt 25 verses 1-4 which give us some revelation about the importance of keeping your fire burning!

Mat 25:1  Then shall the kingdom of Heaven be likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

Mat 25:2  And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
Mat 25:3  The foolish ones took their lamps, but took no oil with them.
Mat 25:4  But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Think with me for a moment, in order to light a lamp you need oil and fire. Oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit and the fire which produces the light that you need to shine brightly! While we go through the trials of this season, please keep fresh oil in your vessel and keep your fire burning. If you have no oil (Holy Spirit), you will have no fire or light. So no matter what the season may bring, let us serve God with reverence and godly fear:  For our God is a consuming fire!

Signs of the Times

Mat 24:3  And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, tell us, when shall these things be, and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world?
Mat 24:4  And Jesus answered and said unto them, take heed that no man deceive you.
Mat 24:5  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Mat 24:6  And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Mat 24:7  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Mat 24:8  All these are the beginning of sorrows.

In the book of Matthew chapter 24, the disciples of Jesus Christ asked him a very profound question concerning the sign of his coming and the end of the world? Jesus then began to give them prophetic wisdom and knowledge of the signs of the times, and the end of the age in the last days.

He also said that no man knows the time or the hour according to Matt 24:36, but he gave us signs to look for as well.

Mat 24:36  ” But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. “

In Matthew 24:4-5, the very first thing sign that Jesus told us was take heed, or make sure no one deceives you.  So one of the signs of the times would be increased deception, where people would easily be deceived. This is why we need prophetic discernment! If it doesn’t line up with the Word of God, you should question it!

In Matthew 24:6, “Jesus said we would hear of wars and rumors of wars.”  This has been going on for many years, which is a prophetic sign as well. In times to come we will see an increase in this as Christ nears his return.

In Matthew 24:7, “There will be nation rising against nation, kingdom against kingdom, famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places.” Nation rising against nation has been going on for many years! We will continue to see an increase in this as well. We also see an increase with pestilences, famines and earthquakes in various places.

in Matthew 24:8, Christ then says, “All these things are the beginning of sorrows.”

Everything that we see now, and have seen over the years are signs. When you are traveling on a road to get to a destination, there are signs that tell you that you are almost there. It’s the same in the Bible. The things that we see are signs, which means it is near, although we may not be there yet! But as we see the signs traveling on a road, we stay focused until we get there.

Even on a journey while traveling, it sometimes takes a while to get to your destination, but then we see signs that indicate we are close or just about there. As it relates to endtime prophecy, this is where we are! We are just about there. Some would say that we are there, but only the Father in heaven knows the time or hour!

The prophetic wisdom in all of this is: Stay focused in this journey of life. You see the signs, you read the signs, and you hear about the signs, but stay focused in Jesus Christ! Psalm 121:1 says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from where comes my help?”

Is Christ your help? Are you looking unto Jesus! Then do not fear! Despite everything going on around us with fear, uncertainty, evil, deception and sickness, Jesus gave us wisdom as to what we should be doing in Matt 24:42-46

Mat 24:42  Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.

Mat 24:43  But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
Mat 24:44  Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Mat 24:45  “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?
Mat 24:46  Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.

So we must stay focused and continue to be about the Fathers business, despite everything going on in the world around us. Jesus said to watch and pray, be watchful, be ready, be faithful, be wise and be about the Fathers business. I don’t read anywhere in the Bible where it says to be fearful, run, hide or stop coming to the house of the LORD.

Remember that we are the light of the world, and a city on a hill which cannot be hidden. Just as Moses told the Israelites to cover their houses with the blood, we are covered by the blood and should be covering our homes with the blood of Jesus Christ!

So what should we be do? The believers should be walking by faith, staying in faith and exercising their faith according to the Word of God. Jesus told the disciples in Luke 10:19, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

We should be exercising the power that we have as well! As we see and hear the fear all around us, stay in faith, be prayerful and remember the words of Jesus Christ who said in Mat 24:44, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

I am who God says I am

Psa 139:14  I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
Psa 139:15  My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psa 139:16  Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
Psa 139:17  How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

I was listening to a song on the radio the other day entitled “You know me better” by a group called “Stars Go Dim” and it really encouraged me! The lyrics were exclaiming the greatness of God and who we are in him. A few of the lyrics said,

*“You know me completely, You know me true, You know me as someone who looks like You, You know me perfect, You know me strong, You know me better, I am who You say I am.”

Isn’t that amazing! God knows us completely and better than anyone on this earth! He sees us in a way that we don’t  even see ourselves!  This should encourage someone reading this today, because God knows you by name, and created you in his image with divine purpose for your life. Jesus said in Matt 10:30, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” Which means God knows everything you have been through and everything that you may go through. Yet, you are who you are, and as Paul said in 1 Cor 15:10, “But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain.”

Child of God, sometimes the trials, tribulations, troubles and tragedies of life can discourage you, but you need to know  that despite what you may be going through, or what you have been through. Those things do not determine who you are, God determines who you are! Even people will sometimes make it seem as though you are small or insignificant, but David’s words are so comforting! Listen to the words of King David in Psalm 139:14-17 as he thought about who he was in the LORD.

Psa 139:14  I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.

Psa 139:15  My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psa 139:16  Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed, and in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.
Psa 139:17  How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

David was excited as he thought about God’s love, and purpose for his life. David said in verse 14, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made, marvelous are your works.” In verse 15, he says, “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in secret.” In verse 16, he says, “You eyes saw my substance when I was not formed, and in your book they are all written and fashioned for me.” Last but not least, David says, “God’s thoughts are precious toward you”  in verse 17.

These are some very encouraging words that should cause you to smile! Because God created you in his image, he predestined and purposed your life and despite who you are and what you may go through. None of those things can compare to who you are in Christ, and how he sees you!

So whenever you go through a trial, I want you to say with confidence, “I am who God says I am! I am who God says I am!”  Be encouraged today and know that everything that God predestined and purposed for your life shall come to pass! Be blessed and remember…”I am who God says I am!”
