Free Indeed!

John 8:36 KJV, If the Son, therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

When we look at scripture from Genesis to Revelation, we find that the LORD is all about liberty and freedom.

In the book of Exodus, Moses was called to deliver the children of Israel out of bondage, where they had been slaves for 400 years. (Genesis 15:13)

Then we find in the New Testament book of Luke 4:18, Jesus proclaims what he was called to do:

Luk 4:18 KJV -The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

In this verse we find that the LORD came into the earth realm to bring freedom to those in bondage!

When I think about bondage and freedom, I am reminded of Jan 1, 1863, where the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln that all enslaved people in confederate states were free! Although it was issued, many people were still held in the bondage of slavery.

Specifically in Texas, where slavery continued until the spring of 1865, when General Granger and Union troops showed up on June 19, 1865 and emancipated those were still enslaved.

This is a historic story of freedom, in which I am reminded of the bondage of sin, which still enslaves many people today.

Just as a man rode into Texas proclaiming freedom in 1865, the God man, Jesus Christ came to earth, and set every human free from the bondage of sin!

Truth be told, many people have not received the spiritual and physical freedom given by Christ at the cross to deliver them from the bondage of sin, where he provided deliverance, freedom, and salvation at the cross. So, as it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual!

So, it is important that we remember June 19th, 1865, which is referred to as Juneteenth where the last slaves were set free.

This is so profound, because there were slaves that were still in bondage who didn’t know they were free, until an Army of soldiers were dispatched to ensure they were set free! According to history, we find that for over 400 years Black Americans endured bondage.

Thousands of years before this emancipation, the Father sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins, and to redeem us from bondage!

Jesus then proclaimed in Joh 8:32 KJV, and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The truth is that Jesus took sickness, slavery, bondage, and sin at the cross! We are no longer slaves to sin, because Christ has made free! Where there is bondage all over the world, I pray that God’s freedom would prevail!

The Word of the Lord to each and every person reading this devotional is that Jesus Christ paid the price for freedom with his precious blood! We are no longer captives and in bondage to the enemy of our souls! Through salvation in Christ, we are free indeed in Jesus’ name!
