Be Still and Know that “I Am God!”

Psalm 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

The Word of the LORD to encourage you as you prepare for 2024 is: “Be still and know that I am God!”

What does this mean? It means to quiet your spirit and your activity to get into the presence of God to hear his voice. This is so important, because today we live in a microwave society.

Everything is quick fast and in a hurry. We have no time to do anything most of the time. Can I get a witness? We are moving so fast, that sometimes we cannot slow down!

Also, because of social media, there are so many distractions with updates and everything going on around us and in the world, it is almost impossible to hear from the LORD.

We have Facebook, Threads, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, Sports, Movies and everyone wants you to hear what they have to say, and what you ought to do!

With all these distractions, truth be told, there is no way we can truly from God! The Bible tells us something profound all throughout the book of Revelation chapters 2 and 3:

Rev 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches…”  In other words, God said,” I am speaking but are you hearing?”

God is speaking and there are many ways that God can speak to us.

  1. Through the preaching and teaching of the Word of God or scripture.
  2. Through a Prophet of the LORD, or through a prophetic Word given by God through a person.
  3. By the Holy Spirit or through an angel of the LORD.
  4. Directly to you, speaking to your heart, mind and spirit.
  5. Through situations and circumstances to get your attention.

There are many ways for God to speak to you, but if you truly want to hear from heaven and get divine direction for your life, your future, your family, ministry and other areas of your life, get still in the presence of God!

Someone may be saying, how do I do that Pastor? Well, it means making time to get alone with God for a time (short or long) to meditate and hear. It means to quiet your spirit.

It means getting into the presence of God to pray. It means taking the time to read scripture or a devotional. It means taking time for yourself and not everyone else.

It means turning off the phone for a moment. It means prioritizing God and not social media.

It means telling the kids to go sit down (LOL) and read a book, or watch TV while you get alone with God. (if possible)

The scripture tells us:

Psalm 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Did you get that? Be still and KNOW that I am God. God can be found and known in the stillness, not in your busy-ness! Sometimes people think that because of their busy-ness in God, that God is pleased. Sometimes he is, sometimes he isn’t.

in the scripture, 1 Kings chapter 18, the Prophet Elijah had just killed over 800 false prophets whom the people were looking up to…it was dramatic, full of action and fire! Through the miraculous power of God, God showed himself to be the ONE true God of Israel!

1Ki 18:38  Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
1Ki 18:39  And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

So then, Elijah gets word that Jezebel wants to kill him. He is scared and runs for his life. He needs to hear from God. So, he goes into a cave and the LORD speaks to him. Check this out!

1Kings 19:9  And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

1Kings 19:10  So he said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

Here it is.. Don’t miss this!

1Kings 19:11  Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake;

1Kings 19:12  and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

Elijah needed to hear from God, but God was not in the strong wind, rocks and mountains. God was not in the earthquake or fire, but he SPOKE to Elijah in a still small voice!

Did you hear that? Sometimes we think God is always in the spectacular, the loudness, the boom, bang, thunder and lighting! And guess what? Sometimes he is! Sometimes he isn’t! But more importantly, God wants to speak to you in a way you can understand.

He spoke to Elijah in a still small voice! Can you imagine that? The Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the End, the Most High God, The God of heaven and earth…spoke in a still small voice! Beloved…the scripture says, “BE STILL!”

How many of us can be still and just rest in God for a few moments? Not many people can do it without moving, checking the phone, and being uncomfortable.

God wants to speak to your heart, and the only way is to take time and “BE STILL” and know that he is GOD! For he will be exalted above the nations and the earth!

As we prepare to go into 2024 in which there will be victories, trials, tribulations, deaths, blessings and so many things, and no man knows the future except God reveal it.

So, seek the face of God and not a man, woman, Google or a psychic! Spend precious moments in his presence to discern the present time, to get divine direction and clarity for all things that pertain to the church, your life, family and future!

God Bless!
