Gen 5:21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
Gen 5:22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Genesis chapter 5 verses 21-24 tells us of a mighty man of God by the name of Enoch. The Bible says he lived 365 years according to the time of that day.
What is amazing is that the Bible also says he walked with God, and he was not for God took him.
Hebrews chapter 11 verse 5 expounds a little bit more about him with one verse of scripture and says:
Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
So, both of the above scriptures tell us that he walked with God and pleased God, and the LORD took him from the earth to heaven to be with him.
The amazing thing is that he did not die according to scripture like many people in the Bible did.
The LORD was so pleased with him so much that he took him to be with him! Wow, isn’t that amazing?
God was so pleased with this man, that he took him out of the earth realm, or as the Bible says; translated Enoch to be with him, to show him great things in the heavens past and present.
Many of you know, there is a book which is referred to as one of the lost books of the Bible that were authored by Enoch by the spirit.
It is a deep revelatory book that reveals things that could only be given by God Almighty himself and his Holy Angels!
It is not part of the 66 books of the Bible canon that we have, but he is mentioned in Genesis, Hebrews and the book of Jude.
The question is, “What was it about Enoch that caused God to take him from the earth realm to heaven?” Many people have asked this question, but the Bible tells us!
Genesis 5:22 says he walked with God.
Genesis 5:23 says his days on the earth were 365 years.
Genesis 5:24 also says he walked with God.
Heb 11:5 says, By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “AND WAS NOT FOUND, BECAUSE GOD HAD TAKEN HIM”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
What I find interesting is that Genesis chapter 5 speaks of Enoch, then Hebrews chapter 11 verse 5 does the same.
This is not by coincidence. In Biblical mathematics, Five (5) is the number of Gods grace or God’s goodness!
God’s great grace was extended to Enoch because of his walk of faith!
Heb 11:6 tells us, But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
So, one of the things we can gather from Enoch’s life is that he was a man of faith. When reading scripture the preceding verse follows the previous verse!
What we can gather from these scriptures about the life of Enoch is the following:
- He walked with God.
- He walked by faith with God.
- He pleased God.
- He had a wonderful testimony before God.
- He had a personal relationship with God.
So the question for all of us is?
Are you walking with God in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
Are you walking out your relationship with Christ by faith?
Do you desire to please God or people?
Are you pleasing God with your life?
What testimony do you have for your life as a believer in Christ?
Do people know you have been with Jesus, and are you letting your light shine brightly for the LORD?
Many people base their relationship with the LORD on church attendance, which is very important of course, but church attendance is only part of our relationship with the LORD and one another.
We must walk with God in a personal relationship!
One important take away is that, in other to walk with God and please God, he had to have a good relationship with the LORD as well.
Which meant he communed, prayed, talked and was obedient to God.
These are some of the things we must ponder in our hearts as we serve and walk with the LORD, if we desire to please the LORD!
When you think about others in the Bible, they often had testimonies that spoke of their relationship with the LORD as well.
Here are eight amazing individuals in the Bible who walked with God and had wonderful testimonies before God as well, but they were not translated according to scripture.
Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD, He was a just or righteous man, perfect in his generations, and walked with God. (Genesis 6:8-9)
Moses was a man that spoke to God, as a man speaks to his friend face to face. (Exodus 33:11)
Abraham was called the friend of God. (Isaiah 41:8 and James 2:23)
David was a man after God’s heart. (1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22)
Job was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. (Job 1:1)
Daniel was a man great beloved in the sight of God. (Daniel 9:23 and Daniel 10:11 and 10:19,) He also had an excellent spirit and no error or fault was found in him. (Daniel 6:3;4)
John was the disciple that Jesus loved. (John 13:23)
Mary was highly favored with the LORD, the Lord was with her, and she was blessed among women!” (Luke 1:28)
As you can see, God is not a respecter of persons, because all of these individuals walked with God and had awesome testimonies!
The greater revelation is of Jesus Christ, whom the Father said about him; You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
My question to each person reading this is; what is your testimony before the LORD, or what will be your testimony before God?
What will people say about you when you leave the earth? What will be recorded in the Lambs book of life concerning you?
Enoch walked with God and was on the earth 365 years according to the time of that day and pleased God.
One revelatory takeaway that we can receive from this is, our walk with God must be a solid 365 days out of the year. There is no time for worldliness or unfruitfulness.
The walk of faith with the LORD is day by day. No matter what we go through, we must walk with God, talk with God through prayer, study scripture, and desire to hear from God through the Word by the Holy Spirit.
Let our walk be as Enoch’s walk, with a desire to please the LORD, and when we do, we will receive revelatory understanding of what God is doing now and in the seasons to come.
Another profound revelation is Enoch’s name in the Hebrew means “Chanok.” Which comes from the Hebrew word: “Chanak” which literally means initiated or narrow, discipline, dedicated or to train up.
So, from these words we find he was dedicated, walked a narrow path with God, he was disciplined and trained up from a youth we can assume to love God.
This is exactly what we all need in our walk with the LORD to please him! To love God and be disciplined, dedicated, and to enter in through the straight or narrow gate.
Because the LORD always reveals the secret things to those walk with him, please him and love him!
My prayer is that your walk with God will be elevated to another level this year. Desire to go higher and deeper in the LORD, and never settle for a distant relationship with him.
Commune and talk with the LORD. Study scripture, fellowship with other believers to be sharpened in the Word, and find and attend a Bible believing, Kingdom of God, spirit filled faithful Church, that is all about the business of God.
Let’s walk with God and please God, so that we can have a wonderful testimony before men in this earth realm, and more importantly, when we stand before him on that eternal glorious day!
May God bless you as you walk with the LORD!
