The Wisdom of your Words (Revisited)

This week we are going to share on the wisdom of your words!  How many of us know that the Bible has a lot to say about the wisdom of our words that we speak.

Listen to Prov 13:3, ” He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.”

This is truly a powerful scripture spoken by the wise man Solomon.

The Bible has so many nuggets of wisdom concerning the words we speak. The wise man of Proverbs said that if we guard our mouth, we will preserve our life. But if we open our lips wide, we will have destruction.

What is the wise man referring too? The wisdom of knowing when to speak the right words, and the foolishness of speaking the wrong words!

One of the travesties of our current day is that people use the freedom of speech to tear down, accuse, cuss, curse, demean and say what they want especially on social media.

But as we can see according to the scripture it is very wise to guard our mouths!

We used to have a saying in the Navy, “Loose lips sink ships.” In other words, when we are in a port somewhere overseas in Europe, South America or the Middle East, don’t talk about shipboard and Navy business.

Why? Because the enemy is listening and looking for an opportunity to put some strategic pieces of a puzzle together, so they can take advantage of us.

We can learn something from this. How? By watching what we say, so that we don’t feed the enemy, our adversary, the devil,  information that he can use to harm us!

The word of wisdom for this week is use wisdom with your words! We live in a time where we see so many negative words in the news, social media, and even the pulpit. Here is wisdom from our LORD Jesus Christ:

Mat 12:35  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
Mat 12:36  But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
Mat 12:37  For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Did you hear that? That we will all given an account of the words we speak! Wow! In other words, watch what you say, and don’t give the enemy fuel to accuse us before God.

If you are not glorifying God with your conversation, you are giving the devil fuel for accusations and even possible judgment!

The Bible says in Prov 17:28, “Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise,  and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” Wow! What words of wisdom!

Even a fool is considered wise when he holds his tongue! Why is that? Because no one knows he is a fool until he opens his mouth!

This week, lets be careful with the words we speak life over our church, family, finances, one another and every situation that comes our way. Remember the words of the Apostle James who said:

Jas 1:19  So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
Jas 1:20  for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Jas 1:21  Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
Jas 1:22  But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Lets glorify God with our conversation and speak life and not death!

When we do this, we will see our lives, churches, communities, cities and country radically changed in a positive way, because of the wisdom of our words!  Anything else is of the evil one! So, be encouraged and blessed! Shalom!

God bless,

Pastor Quinn
