The God (Elohim) of New Things

Isa 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Isa 42:10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.

How many of us enjoy new things? Let’s be honest! We all like new things!  Everyone likes new money, new cars, new homes, new clothes, new friendships and so many other new things! There is something about new things that excite us and bring us joy and happiness. I believe God understands this because all throughout the Bible, God speaks about new things! There are so many scriptures in the Bible (150 I have counted in the King James Bible) that speak about new things.

This is a new month and this is a new season. Some people are wondering, “Will things get back to normal?” Yes they will get back to normal, but it will not be the same. I believe that God has done a reset in the earth. What has transpired in this earth is something we have never experienced before in this generation. It was something serious, and it was something totally new to us all. I am speaking about the Coronavirus situation and the closing of all sectors of society. But we find that throughout the Bible, God was always talking about new things and doing new things. Even through the Prophet Isaiah and Jeremiah, God was preparing his people for new things. Listen to the words of the prophets by the spirit of the LORD:

Isa 43:18  “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.
Isa 43:19  Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.

Jer 31:31  “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
Jer 31:32  not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD.
Jer 31:33  But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

We read where God speaks about new things all throughout the Bible. Let’s take a look:

A new covenant (Isa 43:18-19, Jer 31:31-33, Heb 8:8, Heb 8:13, Heb 9:15, Heb 10:20, Heb 12:24), a new commandment (John 13:34, 1 Joh 2:7-8, 2 Joh 1:5), the new testament (Matt 26:28, Mar 14:24,  Luk 22:30, 1 Cor 11:25), new mercies (Lam 3:22-23), new wine (Matt 9:17, Mark 2:22, Luk 5:38, Acts 2:13), new things (Isa 42:9, Jer 31:22), a new creature (2 Cor 5:17, Gal 6:15), the new man (Col 3:10), a new song (Psa 33:3, Psa 40:3, Psa 96:1, Isa 42:10, Rev 5:9, Rev 14:13), a new heaven (Rev 21:1), a new earth (Isa 65:17, Isa 66:22, 2 Pet 3:13, Rev 21:1, a new name (Isa 62:2, Rev 2:17, Rev 3:12)  he will give his people and there is the new Jerusalem (Rev 3:12, Rev 21:2)

So if God is all about new things, why do we cling to old things?  Primarily because of the sin nature and the spirit of comfortability. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with old things, but new things are better! We tend to hold on to old things because old things are comfortable, old things are familiar, but God said, “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18-19)

What does God want to do new in you? Because of this COVID-19 situation, things will settle again, but there will be a new mentality and attitude in our churches, counties, city and country. What we used to do is no more. How we used to congregate is no more, for a season anyway. So ask the LORD what does he want you to do in this new season.

Don’t go back to the way you used to be. God allows things to happen in the earth because he wants to do something new in the earth and in you. Whatever he does will fulfill his prophetic purposes and Kingdom agenda in the earth. We should desire to be a part of all that God is doing.

Don’t miss God because you refuse to change. Remember when Jesus Christ came on the scene. They would not accept him, and could not accept that God was doing a new thing, so they rejected him. They had the Old Covenant but God wanted to do something new!

God even prepared them with Prophets who spoke about  a new covenant (Isa 43:18-19, Jer 31:31-33, Heb 8:8, Heb 8:13, Heb 9:15, Heb 10:20, Heb 12:24) but they still missed God! The Bible says that God will not do anything without revealing it to his servants the Prophets. (Amos 3:7) Please do not miss God!

When we think about what has happened in the earth, it was something we never experienced. It changed our whole outlook on how we socialize, congregate and interact. In this new season, the LORD is preparing us for new things to come. Some will be good, some will not be, but you must be prayerful and stay strong in the LORD. This is the not the time to play with the things of God. Wherever you are in your relationship with him, desire more.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. If you have not accepted him as LORD and Savior. This is the time to do it, because God wants to do a new thing in you and through you!  For additional information on salvation and being a new creation in Christ, go to this link: https://firmfoundationcf.org/salvation/
